The Initiator
Both the governments - the communist North, under Kim Il Sung, and the democratic South, lead by President Syngman Rhee - claimed to rule all Korea. As in the case of Germany, everyone wanted the country to be united, but under their style of government. In late 1949 and early 1950, many clashes took place between soldiers of the two states along the heavily defended 38th parallel. As we all know, North Korea caused an uproar during the Korean War. While taking the initiative to start the war, they also led multiple attacks onto South Korea. They wanted to rule over all of Korea as to not spare any space to the other leader. Although they had much power over them, the United States and the UN budged into their plans and it completely interrupted their flow. They called for China's help and support. With their help, they were able to push back.
